Birth Doula

About Me

Hi, I’m Tiffany! I’m originally from Anchorage, Alaska, and recently moved to Tulsa from Denver, Colorado. I love staying up late (this has come in handy as a birth doula!), reading, spending time with my little family, traveling, attending live concerts, whitewater rafting, and squeezing naps in whenever possible. My husband and I have one young son, Liam, and an Aussie mix, Teddie. I’m a planner, but I’ve learned to embrace flexibility. I like to be prepared, educated, and think through all of the possible outcomes and scenarios for a given situation. While these are all assets to me as a doula, I quickly learned through the course of my own pregnancy and birth that not everything always goes to plan!

My Why

Hiring a doula was one of the first things that I checked off of my pregnancy to-do list! I knew before I ever became pregnant that an unmedicated, medically minimal birth was what I desired. I intensely prepared myself by reading everything I could, doing a Hypnobabies home study course, taking a natural childbirth class, and breastfeeding classes, among others. Thankfully, I had a doula I trusted by my side for a very long labor (88 hours, over the course of 5 days) that became the opposite of what I had envisioned, and ended in a cesarean delivery. Although the birth of my son did not come about in the way that I had planned, having a strong labor team helped me to embrace the bumps in the road. Pregnancy and childbirth has fascinated me since I was a small child, so it’s no surprise that birthwork is my passion. I feel strongly that the way that a woman is supported through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period sets the stage for a successful transition into parenthood. As a doula, it is my goal to help women to be educated and feel empowered about their birth experiences by realizing their natural strengths and abilities. I want to help women to have the birth that they desire, whatever that looks like for each individual. Although pregnancy and childbirth is a short window of a woman’s life, I feel that this incredibly transformative period deserves respectful support and I take joy in providing that care.

What Makes Me Unique

As a doula, my professional experiences working in obstetrics and gynecology makes me unique. I have had the privilege of seeing all sides of birth in the hospital setting, I know what it is like to be the birthing mom, the doula supporting a family, and a hospital staff member. Because of this experience, I feel very comfortable helping families to navigate the hospital experience. My own birth experience has also given me a unique perspective on birth: I have experienced an induced labor, I have experienced a very long labor, and I have experienced a cesarean birth. I continue to educate myself to provide new skills and services to my clients.

Qualifications

I have a degree in psychology from the University of Colorado and over eight years of experience working in the field of obstetrics and gynecology in physician offices and with new mothers and babies in the hospital setting in Denver, Colorado. In between my years in obstetrics and gynecology and becoming a doula, I was able to enjoy traveling the world as a flight attendant. In addition to DONA birth doula training, I have completed training in birth support for trauma survivors, TENS unit training, Postpartum Core Strengthening, Infant Massage and Infant Safe Sleep. I also offer Bengkung belly binding.

Confidence

I have had the honor of supporting women throughout a variety of births: medicated, unmedicated, multiple births, cesareans, and VBACs. Each and every birth I have attended has been a privilege and never fails to leave me with a sense of awe at the strength of women and the beauty of witnessing the growth of a family. It brings me great satisfaction to assist, educate, and empower women to achieve the birth that they desire. I love being a calm, steady source of support to women and their loved ones during such a momentous life event.

What Working With Me Looks Like

"Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers- strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength." - Barbara Katz Rothman

Prenatal
After an inital consultation I meet with clients twice before each birth so that we are able to get to know each other and prepare for your upcoming birth. During these visits I can assist you with preparing a birth plan, provide education, and practice coping techniques to implement during labor. Initial meetings are typically at the Mind Body Mama office, and I come to your home for the last visit. I am available to you to answer questions prenatally via text message, phone, or email. Additional visits can be added if needed.
Labor & Birth
Once active labor begins I will be available to provide in-person support at your home and at your birthing place (if that is someplace other than your home). Once I arrive, I will remain with you to provide constant support until you give birth. After the birth of your baby, I will stay with you for an additional two hours to help facilitate the golden hour and assist you to initiate breastfeeding, if desired. Throughout your birth I will record a timeline of events for you to keep.
Postpartum
I will come to your home to visit with you on day 3 or day 4 after the birth of your baby. During the postpartum visit I will review your birth timeline with you and provide you with a copy to keep. I will also be able to offer assistance, answer questions, or give referrals about infant feeding and care, and postpartum care for yourself. I bring a small gift for the new mama. After this visit I remain available to you via text, phone, or email to answer any questions you might have for two weeks after the birth of your baby.

Testimonials

Even before she was officially a doula, Tiffany has been a great support during labor and delivery. I text her at midnight after my water broke with my oldest. She was at labor and delivery waiting on us when we got there. She stayed awake while we napped on and off thru the night watching the monitors and explaining what they did and translating dr talk. It was around noon when they rushed us to the o.r. for an emergency c section. It was scary for the last couple hours but she was great at keeping us reassured it would all work out. She has been my first point of contact for any of my pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, miscarriage, and postpartum questions. I've had 3 children at 3 different hospitals, 2 miscarriages, and witnessed 2 other births myself. Tiffany's level of care has always excelled over others in these experiences

One of the best people around during a difficult labor where nothing went as expected. Can't wait to try again a second time and knowing I have Tiffany there as my support eases my doubts and fears for the birthing experience. Would recommend her to anyone needing doula support before, during and after labor.

I just have to start out by saying that I am so glad we chose Tiffany to be our Doula! I was really nervous thinking that someone I didn't know would be in the room with me laboring, but I knew for my first natural non-medicated birth, I wanted a Doula. After the first time meeting Tiffany, all those nervous feelings went away. I felt so comfortable with her.
Tiffany was so helpful and was always there to answer any questions or concerns I had both before and after the birth. This birth was baby number five for us, but as stated, my first non-medicated birth. I was both excited and nervous, and was so thankful to have her there.
Our birth was a very short one as my water broke at 2:30am and he made his arrival at 4:56am. Tiffany arrived to the hospital the same time as us and that was perfect. She did counter pressure as I was having intense contractions, she knew my birth plan and what I wanted, and helped me breathe and calmed me down when I felt like I couldn't do it any more. I'm so thankful we were able to have Tiffany with us, it made my birth experience so much better! I also decided to encapsulate my placenta, and Tiffany took care of all of that for us and Amy brought the finished pills to the hospital the next day. I highly recommend encapsulation! It truly has helped me so much.
She has also been available in the weeks after having our baby to answer any questions I had, and made a postpartum visit as well which was great! Tiffany really cares about you and if we had it to do all over again, I'd choose her again.
Thank you Tiffany for giving us the birth experience I was wanting!
